Plundr. Location Based Gaming for the PC and DS.

June 11th, 2007 by Kate Imbach

PlundrDS Using Wi-Fi Positioning from Skyhook, area/code has released Plundr, the world’s first location-enabled game for the PC. Skyhook’s technology plots a player’s location and area/code integrates that information into gameplay.

Check out some recent Plunder coverage here. The game is a pretty sweet pirate adventure all based on player’s current locations. Players travel from island to island and ship to ship selling goods and fighting for booty. Depending on the player’s location in the physical world, they will find different islands to pillage, ships to raid, and goods to loot.

Plundr will be up on the DS real soon - and then we can all get our game on outside, in the fresh air and sunshine! Imagine that!

techawards_07impact.jpgLast night at the MITX Technology Awards, Skyhook Wireless won the Impact Award for Web 2.0 Enabler. Skyhook was selected to receive this award because our WPS technology was identified as one of the most innovative and competitive technologies offered by all of the high-tech companies in the Boston area. It also demonstrates that in developing WPS and by deploying the Loki application, Skyhook has made a significant impact on content distribution and the development of Web 2.0.

The BBC does Loki

June 5th, 2007 by Kate Imbach

Unbeknown to us until a sharp Loki user across the pond told us, the BBC’s Kate Russell profiled Loki on her TV Show Webscape . Go here and then click ‘Watch Now’ on the right hand side. Fast forward to minute 23 and bada-bing - we have landed on the shores of Her Majesty’s doorstep. There’s also a transcript for those who prefer the ancient art of reading.
This is all part of our plan for world domination through better location. Stay tuned for more information on Skyhook/Loki coverage in Europe and Asia…and country/region specific channels and content soon after!
